Gas prices dip below $2 a gallon in East County

SAN DIEGO — The price of gas has fallen to less than $2 a gallon at several gas stations in San Diego County.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline around the count dropped to $2.35 on Wednesday,  its lowest price since May 4, 2009.  But the price at several stations in East County was less than $2. The Costco in Santee off Towne Center Parkway is selling gas for $1.99 early Wednesday.

The average price has dropped 48 of the past 49 days, decreasing 70.9 cents, including 1.5 cents on Tuesday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 13.7 cents less than one week ago, 44.8 cents lower than one month ago and 71.7 cents below what it was one year ago.

The average price decreased for 24 consecutive days, was unchanged Jan. 31, then resumed dropping Feb. 1.
