Maury and Helen – Longest married couple in America

CARLSBAD, Calif. – A Carlsbad couple was honored Sunday as the longest married couple in America.

Surrounded by their children, seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, Maury and Helen Goosenberg celebrated 80 years of marriage on Valentine’s Day at the La Costa Glen Retirement Community.

The Goosenberg’s beat out 250 other couples in a nationwide contest run by Worldwide Marriage Encounter, a pro-marriage organization that promotes weekend experiences for couples. The couple was honored in a ceremony included a congressional proclamation.

The couple shared some advice on how they made their marriage last.

“A sense of humor is very important and just loving each other very much is the main answer for everything,” Helen said.

Maury is 102 and his Helen is just 100 years old.
