SAN DIEGO – An undernourished sea lion pup is being nursed back to health after it was found lounging in a booth at the Marine Room restaurant in La Jolla.

Restaurant workers discovered the 20-pound female pup sleeping in a booth Thursday morning. It had apparently come in through an open door.

Employees called SeaWorld, which sent a rescue team. They determined that the 8-month-old California sea lion pup was severly undernourished and dehydrated.

They also noticed that the animal’s left eye was swollen shut.

The marine mammal specialists removed the pup from the restaurant and took it back to SeaWorld. Despite the animals poor condition, they believe she will recover and hope that she can be returned to the wild.

SeaWorld has rescued 47 marine mammals so far this year.
