Winter weather prompts closure of some East County schools

JULIAN, Calif. — Campuses in the Mountain Empire Unified School District were closed Monday due to winter weather.

The mountains of East County continued to experience high winds, snow, hail and rain Monday morning, prompting school officials to cancel all classes at the seven campuses in the district. The closure affected four elementary schools, two middle schools and Julian High School.

The following schools will be open on Tuesday:

  • Julian Union Elementary School District – late start time (9:10 a.m.)
  • Julian Union High School District – late start time (9:10 a.m.)
  • Mountain Empire School District – regular start time
  • Spencer Valley School District – regular start time
