LOS ANGELES – Hours before actress Vanessa Hudgens was to perform in Grease: Live, she announced her father passed away.

The 27-year-old actress tweeted that she’ll be dedicating her performance in Grease: Live to her father Greg Hudgens.   Vanessa revealed her father’s ailments last August, according to E! Online. He died at age 65.

“For anyone who may not know Greg Hudgens was a local San Diego firefighter worked with Federal Fire at Miramar and out at San Clemente Island. Retired a few years back. RIP Greg,” Daniel Turner posted on FOX 5’s Facebook page.

Her announcement comes just hours before she is to appear as Rizzo in FOX’s Grease: Live musical special. The program airs Sunday at 7 p.m. PT on FOX 5.

In addition to Vanessa, Greg is survived by her mother, his wife Gina, and Vanessa’s 20-year-old sister Stella.
