Zoo employee falls into gorilla enclosure
LOS ANGELES – A 61-year-old employee fell into a gorilla closure at the Los Angeles Zoo on Thursday morning, prompting a rescue operation by the Los Angeles Fire Department, KTLA reported.
“Animals secured and LAFD Urban Search and Rescue members assessing the situation and preparing necessary equipment to access patient,” the agency tweeted at 8:40 a.m.
Sky5 video showed firefighters hoisting the man up a ladder that had been lowered into a part of the enclosure.
Lying on a stretcher, he we was then transferred to an awaiting ambulance.
In a statement, the Fire Department said the patient was “safely extricated” and was being prepared for transport to a hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
