SAN DIEGO — An auto theft suspect led officers on a brief chase through the South Bay Wednesday evening before managing to lose them in the Otay area, authorities reported.

The chase began shortly after 6 p.m., when the driver of a stolen Toyota Tacoma refused to yield for a traffic stop on Interstate 805, near state Route 905, according to San Diego police.

The driver fled to the north and west for about 10 minutes, until officers lost sight of the truck around Anita Street and Fourth Avenue in southern Chula Vista, Officer Robert Heims said.

Police crisscrossed the area in search of the pickup and the suspect, who remained at large as of 6:45 p.m.
