SAN DIEGO – A Kensington family is celebrating the birth of not one, two or three, but four babies.
The Ferraro family welcomed quadruplets into the world on Jan. 7 by cesarean delivery. Charlie, Claire, Henry and Dillon are now in recovery at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital.
“We’re so fortunate to be in this situation, not just to have one, to have four,” said father Charlie Ferraro.
It all started when Katie and Charlie Ferraro wanted to have another child.
“We were struggling,” said Charlie.
The couple turned to fertility drugs but had no luck.
“We naturally became pregnant,” said Charlie, who added that Katie suspected there were multiple. “The nurse holds up her finger and Katie says, 'one?' And the nurse says, 'no.' And then [Katie] goes, 'two?' And the nurse says, 'no' ... and then four go up, and then it’s a shock."
"It’s my first time seeing quads and delivering quads,” said Dr. Joanna Adamczak. “Oftentimes we can see higher order multiples with in vitro fertilization, but with spontaneous quads, this is quite unique.”
“It’s going to take a village,” said Charlie.
The hardest part will be telling who’s who.
“Nail polish on the toes? We’ll color code them -- I’m not sure,” Katie said.
