CEO of cancer charity gets jail for stealing funds for sick kids
SAN DIEGO — A former San Diego cancer charity president and CEO who stole thousands of dollars meant to help sick children was sentenced Monday to a year in jail.
Brianna King, 32, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to grand theft. King formerly worked with the nonprofit group WishWarriors.
At Monday’s sentencing hearing, Judge Michael Groch placed King on five years probation and ordered her to report for custody April 11.
King, who previously repaid $10,000, still owes another $8,431 in restitution, according to prosecutors.
In July, a WishWarriors board member reported that most of the money raised by the group was gone.
