$150K bail set for trolley assault suspect
SAN DIEGO — A man accused of assaulting people on the San Diego Trolley over a several-month period pleaded not guilty Tuesday to felony charges.
Paul Gregory Cortez Jr., 29, was ordered held on $150,000 bail.
Deputy District Attorney Jim Koerber alleged that Cortez would get on the trolley, attack a person on board, then get off at the next possible stop.
A half-dozen separate attacks happened between early October and Dec. 17, when a 71-year-old woman was assaulted, Koerber said.
Cortez is charged with battery and assault on a person riding on the trolley and elder abuse. He will be back in court Dec. 30 for a readiness conference and Feb. 18 for a preliminary hearing.
