SAN DIEGO -- Surveillance video captured on a home security system shows a thief as he makes off with a package left on the front door of a San Carlos home.

“He checked to make sure no one was looking, walked onto my property, picked up the package off front door and walked away,” explained the owner of the home, who installed the cameras after Halloween decorations were stolen from several neighbors back in October.

The time stamp on the video shows the package were delivered at 3:30 p.m. About 30 minutes later,  the thief walks onto the property, grabs the package and quickly leaves.

“He stole the package seven minutes after delivery guy left the street," the homeowner said.

It's unclear if the guy was casing the neighborhood or not, but the homeowner, who doesn’t want to be identified, quickly posted a still picture of the guy online and was flooded with responses.

“Other people promptly contacted me and said we think we know who this person is. So that information has been provided to the police, “ the homeowner said.

This kind of crime of opportunity goes up during the holidays, according to the police. This incident happened in the 7600 block of Rowena, a quiet residential street. In the last two weeks a few blocks away near Bantan Lake Circle, there have been seven car break-ins and three home burglaries.

“We’ll have criminal that will wander through residential areas to rifle through cars and take anything of value,” San Diego police Lt. Michael Swanson said

The incidents combined are not enough for law enforcement to think they have a serial burglar on their hands but they remind everyone - especially during the holiday season to stay vigilant.

“We all look out for each other. And the fact that someone is walking the neighborhood and stealing packages makes everyone angry,” the homeowner said.
