Student driver shears off fire hydrant
SAN DIEGO – A student driver sheared off a fire hydrant in a crash in Clairemont late Wednesday night, firefighters said.
The student driver was driving with her mother around 11:20 p.m. and mistakenly hit the gas instead of the brakes, according to firefighters. The driver then hit a fire hydrant at Baxter Street and Conrad Avenue, causing a geyser of water to shoot into the sky. No one was hurt.
The San Diego Water Department arrived about 15 minutes later and shut off the water. No homes or businesses were believed to have been without water because of the crash.
