SAN DIEGO – An MV-22B Osprey had an accident while landing on the deck of the USS New Orleans near Camp Pendleton Wednesday afternoon, but no one was injured in the incident, a military spokesperson said.
It was not clear if the the tiltrotor aircraft with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit was damaged in the “landing mishap” around 5 p.m. The Osprey was carrying 22 passengers in addition to a four-person crew at the time of the hard landing.
The Marines were returning to the ship after participating in a training event on shore in preparation for deployment aboard the USS New Orleans, which is a amphibious transport dock, Capt. Brian Villiard of the 13th MEU said. The San Diego-based USS New Orleans is scheduled to deploy as part of the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group, Villiard said.
