The hit-and-run collision occurred early on the afternoon of Nov. 30, when 2-year-old David Serrano rode a scooter away from his parents at Mesa Viking Park and crossed into the path of a late 1990s-model Honda Accord in the 11200 block of Westonhill Drive, according to police.
After the teal-colored sedan hit the child, the motorist, who appeared to be in her 60s, continued on to the north and left the area. Medics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
It will be four weeks until David will be able to walk on his own as three fractured hip bones continue to heal. After spending two days at Rady Children's Hospital, tests showed he had no internal bleeding, to the relief of his parents.
Anyone with information on the identity or location of the driver or her vehicle was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477, or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
