In 2000, Pastor Miles McPherson started the church, which has grown to over 15,000 members. The Rock Church offers 15 services on Sundays at its now five campuses and over 20 microsites.
The church held its ribbon-cutting event Tuesday to celebrate the new campus located at 4001 El Cajon Boulevard. San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman attended the event.
The new facility will house services for up to 500 parishioners. McPherson said he's excited about the growth of the church, especially in the diverse City Heights community.
"We`re a church that wants to be out in the street, helping people," McPherson said. "We're going to deploy all these people out into the City Heights community to do as much good as we can."
In the past, the church has some issues with neighbors based on the influx of traffic and parking during their Sunday services. Church organizers said they built an underground parking garage to alleviate parking concerns ahead of the new location opening.
The official grand opening will be open to the public on Sunday, Dec. 6.
