High tides causes minor flooding at Midway intersection

SAN DIEGO – High tides sent water into an intersection near the U.S. Post Office in the Midway District Tuesday morning.

What was initially thought to have been a water main break in the vicinity of Midway Drive and Barnett Avenue was later determined to be flooding stemming from the high tide, according to San Diego police.

Backed up drains in the area also contributed to the flooding,

King tides — the highest astronomical tides of the year — will create the potential for minor flooding through Friday, but peak hazards will occur Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. A coastal flood advisory is set to remain in effect from 4 a.m. today until noon Friday.

San Diego police urged motorists to avoid the flooded area.
