OCEANSIDE, Calif. — An Oceanside man was wounded Monday morning when his gun accidentally discharged as it was unholstered.

The victim’s neighbor called for help around 6:45 a.m. and said he saw the man emerge from his home on Thomas Street near Thunder Drive with a gunshot wound to the chest, Oceanside police Lt. Leonard Cosby said.

The wounded man, who was not publicly identified, was able to tell responding officers his gun went off as he was removing it from his shoulder holster, according to the lieutenant. He was taken to Tri-City Medical Center then flown to a San Diego-area hospital to be treated for the wound of unknown severity.

Cosby said the police department’s Investigations Unit was looking into the shooting.

  • Second thoughts about suicide.

Guy was lucky. Second thoughts about suicide should be considered before acting. If you need help there are plenty of resources available. The Gun shop, medicine cabinet or bridges should not be any of them.
