NEW ORLEANS – Gunfire erupted at a New Orleans park where hundreds of people were celebrating Sunday evening, police said.
Around 300 people were at Bunny Friend Park in the Upper 9th Ward when the shooting broke out, a witness told the Times-Picaynne.
People ran away, while others started helping victims, according to the paper. Several victims were seen lying on the sidewalk along Gallier Street as police combed the area for the gunman.
Ambulances took 10 people to hospitals, and police were told that others were taken by private vehicles, Los Angeles Times reported. Police spokesman Tyler Gamble said investigators don’t know how serious the wounds were, or what started the shooting.
A witness told the Times-Picaynne that the gunfire sounded like New Years Ever when celebratory gunfire is heard.
The celebration followed a parade put on by the Nine Times Social Aide and Pleasure Club.
