The brief water pursuit played out about 3 p.m. Friday, according to Customs and Border Patrol spokeswoman Jackie Wasiluk. The suspects were attempting to enter the U.S. illegally, Wasiluk said.
The arrests were a collaborative effort between San Diego law enforcement, U.S. Border Patrol agents and agents with CBP Air and Marine Operations, Wasiluk said.
Law enforcement officers responding to the scene found one jet ski and took two suspects into custody. Two other suspects attempted to flee, but were found and taken into custody, according to Wasiluk. Their jet ski was seized.
The suspects were believed to possibly be smuggling narcotics, according to Lee Swanson, a spokesman for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
All four suspects were turned over to U.S. Border Patrol agents for processing, Wasiluk said.
