SAN DIEGO – San Diego police seek help from the public to identify a suspect wanted for stealing a rifle from a Kearny Mesa gun range.

The incident was reported at around 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 29 in the 7800 block of Balboa Avenue.

The man walked into the Gun Range San Diego and rented a FNH SCAR 16s semi-automatic rifle. After shooting the rifle for about an hour at the range, he returned to the lobby. Once the store became busy with customers, he left the store with the rifle valued at over $3,000, police said.

Investigators found that he used a false California identification card to rent the rifle.

He drove away in a grey or silver 4-door sedan with damage to the front passenger side quarter panel.

The suspect, who was photographed by security cameras at the gun range, is described as a white man with brown hair and brown eyes, 28 to 30 years old, 5-10”, 180 to 200 pounds. He was wearing a black baseball hat with “VANS” written on the front, a grey hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes. He has a “D” shaped tattoo on the back of his neck.

Anyone with information should call the San Diego Police Department’s Eastern Division at 858-495-7900 or remain anonymous by calling 888-580-8477.
