SAN DIEGO -- Port of San Diego officials are looking for proposals to lease a restaurant located at the end of the Imperial Beach pier.

The Tin Fish is still operating at the location but its lease will expire in April.

“We expect that we’ll be able to review these proposals and make a decision before that time period,” said Adam Meyer, Port of San Diego.

Port officials are hoping for a proposal which reconfigures the building, expanding it to utilize the size. All proposals must be submitted by Dec. 15.

“The request that we have is to keep it as a limited or full-circle restaurant,” Meyer said.

But some residents don’t agree, saying The Tin Fish and the building is an icon in Imperial Beach.

“If somebody is going to take over or assume ownership and they want to change it dramatically, I don’t think it’s going to fly, I really don’t," said resident Ken McKee.

Port officials hope to receive enough proposals before considering the right one in January.
