SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres announced Thursday that Arizona Diamondbacks third base coach Andy Green will be their next manager.

Green replaces Pat Murphy, who filled in after Bud Black was fired in June.

Green, 38, was an infielder for the D-backs and the New York Mets before becoming a base coach for Arizona.

Executive Vice President A.J. Preller, who apparently is an “admirer” of the Diamonback’s offense,  introduced the new Padres manager at Petco Park  Thursday afternoon.
