Balboa Park stabbing investigation

SAN DIEGO – A homeless man was stabbed in the back early Tuesday near Balboa Park.

A man walking his dog around 3:30 a.m. spotted someone lying on the sidewalk near the south side of Balboa Park on 6th Avenue.

The man, in his late 40s, had been stabbed three times in the back and torso, police said. He was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he was in stable condition.

Police were unsure exactly where the stabbing happened. They blocked off a large area on the 1800 block of 6th Avenue investigating the stabbing Tuesday morning.

No good description of the suspect was available.
