Boil water order issued for Vallecito County Park
SAN DIEGO — The County Department of Environmental Health Tuesday issued a Boil Water Order for Vallecito County Park after tests for E.Coli and total coliform bacteria came back positive.
The park, in a valley just east of Mt. Laguna and southeast of Julian at 37349 Great Southern Overland Stage Route, has a water system that serves 44 camp sites and public restrooms with showers.
County officials said the presence of E.Coli bacteria indicates that the water may be contaminated with human or animal waste. Health effects can include diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches or other symptoms.
E.Coli may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems, according to the DEH.
Total coliform bacteria comes from soils and other environmental sources and can indicate a problem with the water supply system.
The order went into effect immediately and will remain until laboratory testing confirms the absence of bacteria in the water supply, the county said.
