SAN DIEGO — Two men were behind bars in connection with a spree of commercial burglaries in Hillcrest, La Jolla, Mission Hills and Pacific Beach, authorities announced Monday.

Detectives arrested Carlos Carranza Castaneda, 25, and Jeffrey R. Jakse, 27, last week on suspicion of carrying out the series of break-ins, which began in September and continued through the middle of this month, according to San Diego police.

The perpetrators of the “smash and grab” crimes broke front windows at businesses and fled with cash registers, Lt. Carole Beason said.

Authorities did not disclose what led them to identify Castaneda and Jakse as suspects in the case.
