South Bay freeway ramp closed over weekend
NATIONAL CITY, Calif. — The onramp from East Plaza Boulevard to southbound Interstate 805 in National City will be closed Friday night and throughout the weekend so Caltrans crews can work in the area.
The freeway onramp is scheduled to remain closed through 5 a.m. Monday, according to Caltrans.
Westbound motorists will be directed to head south on Highland Avenue to eastbound state Route 54, then Interstate 805. Eastbound travelers be detoured onto southbound Euclid Avenue to get to the freeway.
State transit officials said the occupants at nearby residences and businesses could expect intermittent lights and noise during the construction.
The work along the freeway interchange is part of the first phase of a roughly $1.1 billion project to add carpool lanes, connectors and transit stops along the freeway between East Palomar Street in Chula Vista and the I- 805/state Route 15 interchange in San Diego. Construction on the first phase of the project is expected to be completed later this fall, according to Caltrans.
