JAMUL, Calif. – A dozen homes were without water Wednesday after a water pipe burst in Jamul and caused a sinkhole in the road, the Otay Water District said.

The roadway was undermined in both directions in the 13900 block of Proctor Valley Road after the water main broke around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. A repair crew shut the water off around 8 p.m.

They remained on the scene  Wednesday morning filling in the sinkhole, which stretched across both lanes of Proctor Valley Road.

The Otay Water District was unsure when the road would be repaired and when water would be restored to homes affected by the break. Crews were looking into what caused the pipe to burst.
