SAN DIEGO — A motorcyclist was severely injured Wednesday in a collision with an SUV that turned into his path at a Clairemont-area intersection, police said.

The 24-year-old rider was headed west through the intersection of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard and Dubois Drive at the same time an eastbound 1996 Ford Explorer was turning left. They collided shortly after 7:30 a.m., according to San Diego police Officer Frank Cali.

The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital to be treated for a fractured pelvis and a back injury, Cali said. The 40-year-old man behind the wheel of the SUV was apparently uninjured, he said.

Cali said alcohol was not involved in the crash.
