Cyclist, 72, hit by car after running red light

MIRAMAR, Calif. — A 72-year-old man was seriously injured when he was hit by a car while riding his bike in Miramar Sunday.

The crash occurred at around 7:50 a.m., at the intersection of Miramar and Kearney Villa road, San Diego police said.

According Officer Dan Lasher, the man attempted to cross the street against a red light.

Upon impact, the man was thrown from his bicycle. He suffered life-threatening injuries to his spleen, lungs and ribs and was rushed to a hospital.

Police did not believe alcohol to be a factor, Lasher said.
