CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Chula Vista police arrested a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent Saturday for allegedly shooting and killing her boyfriend at an apartment complex in Chula Vista.

At 8:47 a.m., Chula Vista police officers were called to reports of shots fired at the Pinnacle Apartment complex in the 1300 block of Santa Rita.

When they arrived, they found the victim with a gunshot to his chest, police said. First responders tried to revive him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Melissa Hayes-Spencer, 30, told police that she shot the man because he was hitting her. According to police, she was cooperative and willingly went to the station for questioning. However, at 8:30 p.m., authorities booked and arrested her for homicide.

Police said that they found no signs of struggle, just a minor scratch on the woman's hand. The body was taken to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's office for further investigation.

The two had lived in the apartment for a little more than a month and there were no records of domestic dispute calls at the residence, according to police.

Police said a gun was recovered at the scene.

The big deal is that the person submitting/publishing the report can’t even get names of huge government agencies right, how can we know that the rest of the facts in this story are correct? If someone is paid to report facts, they better damn well get them all correct in a story that’s only about 200 words long.

      • Teresa yanez

Sorry to inconvenience you, Troy, but it’s just that we kinda like “facts” in our news stories.

I won’t go on and lecture you about the big difference…it’ll just make you look dumber than you already made yourself look.

There are several agencies within CBP…and it would’ve been kinda nice to know which one the shooter worked with. Plus, there’s no such thing as customs and border patrol…

  • Durr

So which was it? A customs officer, or a border patrol agent? They’re two different things, and I really wish the media would get them right.

  • KnowItAll

Excessive force investigation candidate for sure! It’s never nice to hit a lady. BTW under our wonderful new Dept. of Homeland Security we formed the U.S. Customs & Border Protection agency…. #OverPaidUnderTrained

Two people can keep a secret if one of them is dead. She has no visible injuries or signs of a struggle. She is a suspect….not a victim.

        Nah, she’s gonna burn. 20-life.

You can’t shoot people you disagree with…verify you’re a chick. Otherwise, it would be a hi-ho time in rush hour traffic…

  • California legislation hits an all time low! Say no to any new gun legislation! It simply will not work!

Legislators want support for a bill to further restrict the rights of law abiding citizens. The criminals simply will not follow current or proposed laws. New safety laws erode the rights of upright citizens who have to follow the law. SAY NO TO ANY LAWS regarding guns! You will take rights to protect yourself and your family away! The police simply cannot and will not protect you when the bad guy comes knocking

    • Idiot liberals

Sure, no prob. As soon as you submit to drug tests while you’re sucking on the welfare teat.

Deal? Or, will you be keeping your EBT card and obamaphone?

This sounds like a future dateline show. Hyphenated last name for a black women equals past marriage that she is still attached to her ex-husband emotionally. One shot to his chest says she wasn’t emotionally attached with this boyfriend. If she was being beaten by him on a regular basis multiple shots would have been the results due to past anger issues for revenge. Like most killings money is always the reason why so I think she has her name on his insurance policy. They stated he was attached to the military so $250,000 is a lot of money is a crazy person eye.
