CHULA VISTA – A speeding motorcyclist was killed when, while trying to evade police, they collided head on with a pickup truck in Chula Vista, police said Sunday.

A little after 10 p.m. Saturday, a patrol officer spotted a biker speeding westbound on Olympic Parkway near Heritage Road. The officer tried to pull over the biker, activating his car’s emergency lights and siren near Orange Avenue and the Jacob Dekema (805) Freeway, according to a statement from the Chula Vista Police Department.

The motorcyclist continued speeding westbound on L Street, entered the oncoming traffic and struck an eastbound pickup truck. The biker was ejected and landed in a private driveway. The occupants in the pickup truck suffered minor injuries and the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said it was unknown if the motorcyclist was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
