Marine found dead at Camp Pendleton identified

SAN DIEGO — A Marine found dead at a shooting range at Camp Pendleton Monday has been identified.

Lance Cpl. Dominic E. Schraft, 19, of Vienna, Mo., was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head at approximately 6 a.m. at Marksmanship Training Range 214, according a press release from the U.S. Marine Corps.

Schraft was assigned to Battery R, 5th Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division.

He joined the Marine Corps in August of 2014 and served as a field radio operator. He never deployed during his career.

His awards include the National Defense Service medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service medal.

An investigation of the incident is underway.
