SAN DIEGO – A standoff in Pacific Beach ended Wednesday afternoon when a man who allegedly threatened to burn down his own house surrendered peacefully to police.

Police went to a home in the 1300 block of Reed Avenue in Pacific Beach shortly after 10 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from a resident. When they arrived, they saw a man throw a liquid on the building. Officers recognized the man from previous visits to the home, police said.

The man told officers he was going to set the building on fire. When police approached him, the man poured liquid on the front stairs and retreated inside the house, investigators said.

Police had surrounded the home and evacuated nearby home as they tried to convince the man to come out. Finally, at around 2:30 p.m., the man came out of the home and surrendered to police without incident.
