SAN DIEGO -- San Diego police sought Thursday a hit-and-run driver who fatally ran over a man after he collapsed in a street just west of Balboa Park.

The pedestrian, who was about 60, collapsed for unknown reasons while attempting to walk across Spruce Street near Fourth Avenue around 8 p.m. Wednesday, San Diego Police officer Robert Heims said.

A small sedan, possibly a hatchback, ran over the man as he was lying in the street and continued south on Fourth Avenue, Heims said.

The victim died at the scene. His name was not immediately released.
