OCEANSIDE, Calif. – A man was taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after crashing on top of a parked car during a chase in Oceanside, the San Diego Sheriff’s Department said.

A Sheriff’s deputy spotted the driver of a silver Acura Integra speeding through a red light at the intersection of North Emerald Drive and West Drive in Vista at 2:41 a.m. The deputy tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver didn’t stop and led the deputy on a short chase.

The chase last about one minute along Olive Avenue before the driver crashed into a fire hydrant and went airborne, landing on top of a parked car in the driveway of a home west of College Boulevard in Oceanside, Sheriff’s deputies said.

The car was suspended almost vertically atop the parked vehicles and remained so throughout the morning as Sheriff’s deputies were on-scene investigating. The driver was injured and taken to the hospital.

It was unclear what charges he would face.
