CORONADO, Calif. – A large swarm of bees has shut down a busy intersection in Coronado Monday afternoon.

Coronado Police Department told people to avoid the area around 5th Street and D Avenue around 3:30 p.m. as a safety precaution.  A beekeeper went to the area and was able to remove the broken hive by 5 p.m.

The insects began swarming after a hive fell out of a tree near the residential road crossing. There are no reports that anyone was seriously stung.
