SAN DIEGO – The driver of the U-18 Bucket List Racing hydroplane flipped Friday during a qualifying session on the first day of the San Diego Bayfair in Mission Bay.

The accident occurred just before 1 p.m. The driver, 64-year-old Kelly Stocklin, was conscious when he climbed out of the boat. He was not seriously hurt but was transported to UCSD medical center as a precaution. He was expected to be released Sunday.

The boat, which had significant damage, was towed back to the race pits. The U-18 is one of 11 H1 Unlimited hydroplanes that are racing this weekend, in addition to 10 Grand Prix West hydroplanes.
