SAN DIEGO – A suspected drunk driver rolled his Ford Focus and crashed into a parked car in National City Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver flipped the car at 2605 Ridgeway Drive at 12:41 a.m. The car clipped a parked care before coming to rest on its side. National City firefighters used an ax to cut through the windshield and rescue the driver.

Though the driver exited the vehicle under his own power and was walking around the scene, he was ultimately placed on a stretcher and taken to the hospital.

It was unclear what the severity of his injuries were or what charges he would face.
