2 hurt when car crashes into tree
SAN DIEGO — A 60-year-old driver and her 5-year-old passenger were injured in a single-vehicle crash in the Black Mountain Ranch neighborhood, a police officer said Friday.
The woman inadvertently hit the Toyota Corolla’s gas pedal instead of the brake while turning from westbound Paseo del Sur onto Camino del Sur. She then over-corrected, causing the car to strike a tree shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.
The child, whose gender was not immediately disclosed, was strapped into a child seat but suffered a lacerated spleen in the crash, Heims said. The driver sustained only minor injuries, he said.
Heims said the driver and passenger were taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
