LA MESA, Calif. -- A man tried to lure a Grossmont High School student into his truck as she waited for a ride after school earlier this week, according to an email Principal Daniel Barnes sent families.

It happened Tuesday around 3:30 p.m. near the school's baseball field on Milden Street.

According to Barnes, the stranger offered the student cigarettes and told her to get in his truck. She refused and the man drove off onto Water Street.

“You know, he could’ve gone one step further -- grabbed somebody. So it’s scary," said Renee Ferguson, parent of a Grossmont student.

The suspect is described as Hispanic, 30 to 40 years old, with brown eyes and hair, and a large mole on the right cheek.

The truck is described as a maroon, older model single-cab with chipped paint -- possibly a Ford F-150.
