DEHESA, Calif. - Two people were taken to the hospital and one man was arrested after a head-on crash east of El Cajon early Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol said.

An eastbound Nissan Altima crossed into oncoming traffic and slammed into a Honda Civic at 3:42 a.m. at 3641 Dehesa Road, sending the Civic off the road into an embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol.  Both lanes of the road were closed following the crash.

The two men in the Civic were heading home from work at Sycuan Casino, which is about 5 miles from where the accident occurred.  The passenger, a 22-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Sharp Memorial Hospital. The Civic's driver, a 43-year-old Lakeside resident, had less serious injuries.

The driver of the Nissan Altima, 10-year-old Bashman Azatt Abdulahad, fled the scene on foot but was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run a short time later, the CHP reported. Investigators said he was driving with a suspended license.

Debris was scattered across the road and at least one of the vehicles was being loaded onto a tow truck.

Maybe something will finally be done about that stretch of road. Usually a minimum of one accident a month caused by either drivers being to impatient and passing cars by crossing into the oncoming traffic, or, not wanting to wait while a vehicle is trying to turn into one of the streets on the other side of the road but not judging the distance and then rear-ending that vehicle.

if the driver was the man who is handcuffed by the police as it shows, he is at least in his twenties not 10!!!!

Think the editor needs to do better on proofing the stories before posted. Hmmm, 10 and driving on a suspended license.
