Motorcyclist killed in crash with SUV in Talmadge

SAN DIEGO — A 49-year-old motorcyclist was hit and killed as he ran a red light this morning in the Talmadge neighborhood.

The southbound motorcycle and a SUV collided at the 54th Street and Collwood Boulevard interchange shortly after 6:30 a.m., San Diego police Officer Dan Lasher said. The SUV’s 34-year-old driver had a green light to proceed onto Collwood Boulevard.

Paramedics unsuccessfully worked to revive the rider, who was pronounced dead of major internal injuries at 6:51 a.m., police said.

It was not immediately clear whether the SUV’s driver was injured.

The crash prompted authorities to temporarily shut down 54th Street at El Cajon Boulevard.

Lasher said intoxication was not suspected in the crash.
