Firefighters knock down blaze at Clairemont Mesa elementary school

SAN DIEGO – Firefighters battled a small blaze at an elementary school in Clairemont Mesa Monday morning, the San Diego Fire Department said.

The fire was reported just before 5 a.m. at James Whitcomb Riley Elementary School at 5650 Ackerly Drive. Fire crews found a small fire on the outside of the school and knocked it down around 5:10 a.m.

The Metro Arson Strike Team was called to the school to investigate.

This was the second fire to which arson investigators were called Monday morning, with the first fire occurring in the Bay Ho neighborhood about one hour earlier.
