SAN DIEGO - Arson investigators were looking into a fire that destroyed 4 vehicles in the Bay Ho neighborhood Monday morning, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Fire crews arrived at Ariene Drive near Morena Boulevard at 4:30 a.m. Four vehicles were engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, and several explosions were heard as the tires popped due to the heat. A fuel line from at least one of the vehicles ruptured, sending fuel down the roadside gutter.

Firefighters knocked down the flames in about 20 minutes and prevented the fire from spreading up a hillside next to the parked vehicles. Investigators found an abandoned vehicle just up the street in an intersection.

Police believe the fires were set intentionally. Witnesses said they saw two people leaving the scene on bicycles shortly after the fire started.

This was the first of two fires Monday morning that police believe were intentionally set. The second was at James Whitcomb Riley Elementary School in Clairemont Mesa. The full story on that fire can be found here.
