SAN DIEGO — The driver of a stolen vehicle was arrested following a pursuit that ended in a crash near the U.S.-Mexico border Tuesday, authorities said.

Police received a report shortly after 8:30 a.m. that a man was tampering with vehicles in the 1500 block of Air Wing Road near Approach Road in the Otay Mesa area, San Diego police Officer Humberto Hernandez said.

The caller took down the license plate number of the Honda the suspect was seen in, and police determined the car had been stolen, Hernandez said.

Officers chased the suspect for about 15 minutes. Hernandez said the Honda was involved in “some type of collision” before the driver was taken into custody near Camino de la Plaza and Dairy Mart Road in San Ysidro.

The suspect’s name was not immediately available.
