Firefighters make gains on wildfire burning near Fallbrook

FALLBROOK, Calif. — A fire that burned roughly 40 acres of brush and briefly threatened homes in the De Luz area near Fallbrook was 50 percent contained Monday morning.

The blaze broke out along De Luz Road near De Luz Murrieta Road shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday, according to CalFire. By about 6:30 p.m., it had grown to 40 acres.

A stretch of De Luz and De Luz Murrieta roads near the Santa Margarita Truck Trail were closed to non-resident traffic, according to the California Highway Patrol.
