CLEVELAND– As the city prepares to take center stage for this week’s Republican presidential debate, it’s worth noting that 35 years ago, Cleveland hosted a pivotal debate.

On Oct. 28, 1980, President Jimmy Carter, the Democratic candidate, squared off in Cleveland against Republican challenger Ronald Reagan in their only debate of that campaign.
