Apartment blaze forces 5 from their home

SAN DIEGO – An apartment caught fire in East San Diego early Saturday.

San Diego Fire-Rescue said flames broke out in the rear unit of an apartment complex located at 4228 El Cajon Blvd. at around 6 a.m.

Crews attacked the fire and knocked it down in less than 20 minutes.

Fire officials said five people lived in the apartment and were displaced but no one was injured.

Total damage was estimated at $600,000.
