SAN DIEGO -- Sixty-two-year-old Maria Lopez  was killed Thursday in a fire that swept through a converted garage where she lived behind a house in Mountain View.

"I'm going to miss her," said her friend, Janet Diaz who stopped by the home in the 3500 block of Ocean View Boulevard because she feared something was wrong.  She said Lopez had a son.

Lopez moved into the small apartment where she lived alone in March, friend Carmen De La Cruz told FOX 5.

The San Diego Fire Department said it took them about 10 to 15 minutes to put the fire out in the apartment that had very little furniture and a stove, but no bathroom.  It was when they got the fire out that they discovered Lopez's body.

Neighbors told FOX 5 Lopez kept to herself.  They did not know her well.

The Metro Arson  Strike Team (MAST), made up of SDPD Detectives and SDFD Investigators, are investigating the fire.
