OCEANSIDE, Calif. — A motorcyclist died after smashing into the rear of a sedan at a high speed on state Route 78 , the California Highway Patrol said Friday.

The 43-year-old driver of a Volkswagen Passat told officers she was headed east on the freeway near College Boulevard at  freeway speeds at 9:30 p.m. Thursday when she saw the 35-year-old victim and another rider quickly approaching  in her rear view mirror, CHP Officer Jim Bettencourt said. The Volkswagen’s driver was attempting to move out of the fast lane when the victim’s 2000 Kawasaki Ninja struck the back of her car.

Bettencourt said the Oceanside man was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene.

His name was not immediately available.

The fatally injured rider’s companion, who was on another motorcycle, did not stay at the scene after the collision, and it remained unknown if that rider was involved, Bettencourt said.

The Volkswagen’s driver was not hurt.

Bettencourt said neither alcohol nor drugs were apparent factors in the crash.

Sounds like the VW driver caused the crash by moving into another lane. Way to go, you idiot.

For those of us with reading comprehension, the article says the VW driver was changing lanes to get out of the way of the cycle. Good thoughts going up for the families involved.

Your news story is false, along with the headline. He was not in high speed, he was not riding with a companion. This was not his fault. Please edit your story with more accuracy.

Read it more clearly my friend wasn’t riding with anyone yes but his companion which they clearly state was on another motorcycle

Today was a very sad day. The world is a much darker place without his bright smile. I hope wherever you are my friend you are at peace. You will always be remembered and forever be missed. RIP Nathan Thanks for the memories. My prayers are with your family may they find strength to face the day without you.. Missing you already

Were you there, Friend? If not, you can’t really say for certainty what happened. If you were there, you should have stayed with your dying friend.

      • Friend

Yes. I was with him that night and was there. This story is false. Fox needs to seriously change this.
